LOWER LAKE — It wasn”t easy, but the Lower Lake Trojans clinched a tie for the North Central League I North junior varsity volleyball championship on Tues-day night with a 27-25, 25-17 victory over Willits.
Both teams entered the key league match 5-1. Lower Lake closes out the season Thursday in Middletown needing a victory to wrap up the undisputed league title.
“We had to fight our butts off to win it,” Lower Lake coach Pat Chambers said, referring to 13 Lower Lake service errors. “We were giving the points away.”
Key blocks by April White and Kelsie Shoffeitt and three kills by Nikki Staats helped the Trojans win a back-and-forth game one in the best-of-three match.
White and Shoffeitt each had four kills and three blocks and Staats finished with four kills and five points. Jessica Wilson led Lower Lake at the service line with 10 points and six aces.
