NORTH STATE — Though the outcome of local races was yet to be made official, it appeared Wednesday morning that the seasoned representatives of the North Coast were safe. Both former state Sen. Wes Chesbro and current Rep. Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) held commanding leads in the 1st State Assembly District and 1st Congressional District races, respectively. Totals reported by individual counties on election night were only preliminary and were yet to include provisional ballots or some of the absentee ballots. Each county”s elections office has up to 28 days after the election to certify the results.

1st Congressional District

California”s 1st Congressional District consists of the entirety of Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake and Mendocino counties and parts of Napa, Sonoma and Yolo counties.

Thompson has held the seat since 1999 and was challenged for the post during this election by Republican Zane Starkewolf and Green Party candidate Carol Wolman.

In Sonoma County, Thompson garnered 20,581 votes (68.6 percent), Starkewolf garnered 7,123 votes (23.8 percent) and Wolman garnered 2,237 votes (7.5 percent).

In Lake County, Thompson garnered 13,397 votes (66.2 percent), Starkewolf garnered 5,328 votes (26.3 percent) and Wolman garnered 1,508 votes (7.5 percent).

In Mendocino County, Thompson garnered 11,833 votes (67.95 percent), Starkewolf garnered 3,722 votes (21.37 percent) and Wolman garnered 1,831 votes (10.51 percent).

In Del Norte County, Thompson garnered 4,920 votes (59.26 percent), Starkewolf garnered 2,874 votes (34.62 percent) and Wolman garnered 507 votes (6.1 percent).

In Humboldt County, Thompson garnered 31,962 votes (67.18 percent), Starkewolf garnered 10,725 votes (22.54 percent) and Wolman garnered 4,820 votes (10.13 percent). In Napa County, Thompson garnered 29,305 votes (70.84 percent), Starkewolf garnered 9,626 votes (23.27 percent) and Wolman garnered 2,435 votes (5.89 percent).

In Yolo County, Thompson garnered 38,570 votes (68.3 percent), Starkewolf garnered 13,504 votes (23.9 percent) and Wolman garnered 4,416 votes (7.8 percent).

In all, Thompson leads with 150,568 votes while Starkewolf and Wolman trail with 52,902 votes and 17,754 votes respectively.

1st State Assembly District

California”s 1st State Assembly District is one of 80 districts in the California State Assembly. It is currently represented by Patty Berg (D-Eureka) who was unable to run again for her seat due to term limits. The district consists of the entirety of Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinity, Mendocino and Lake counties as well as northern Sonoma County. Vying for the position were Democrat Wesley Chesbro and Republican Jim Pell, both natives of Humboldt County.

In Del Norte County, Chesbro garnered 4,643 votes (57.29 percent) to Pell”s 3,460 votes (42.7 percent).

In Humboldt County, Chesbro garnered 33,139 votes (70.83 percent) to Pell”s 13,501 votes (28.86 percent).

In Lake County, Chesbro garnered 12,866 votes (64.7 percent) to Pell”s 7,028 votes (35.3 percent). In Mendocino County, Chesbro garnered 12,079 votes (71.24 percent) to Pell”s 4,810 votes (28.37 percent).

In Trinity County, Chesbro garnered 3,144 votes (55.83 percent) to Pell”s 2,462 votes (43.72 percent).

In Sonoma County, Chesbro garnered 37,048 votes (74.3 percent) to Pell”s 12,718 votes (25.5 percent).

In all, Chesbro leads Pell 102,919 votes to 43,979 votes.
