CLEARLAKE — The youth and all members of the community are invited to a special concert celebrating the achievements and possibilities of youth this Saturday, Nov. 8 at First Assembly of God Church in Clearlake. The party is a kick-off event celebrating the second CD release of faith-based youth band “Chasing Truth.”

Chasing Truth is a group of young heavy-metal heads who aim to inspire other youth through their music. The band, whose members are all younger than 18, supports a message of non-violence and drug abstinence delivered through lyrics of faith and religion.

The event is part of First Assembly”s Xtreme Impact Youth Ministries” outreach efforts. “Xtreme Impact Youth Ministries is a little more than just a Thursday night youth group,” Youth Minister Chris Massingill said. “Every year we do something large for the youth in the community. This year we were inspired to bring this youth band up here.”

Massingill said that Chasing Truth is celebrating the release of its second CD and wanted to launch their tour from Clearlake. “Chasing Truth usually plays big venues. They”ve played at events like the Joshua Fest and Rock of Ages and venues on the East Coast” Massingill said. “They are a headline band with a pretty big following and they wanted to do a ?707 second CD kickoff” to launch their tour.”

Massingill said the purpose of hosting the band is to motivate youth to higher aspirations. “This is an outreach effort to show our youth that anything is possible,” he said. “It”s their generation. It”s heavy metal music with Christian lyrics. We want to show them that they too, can play music and be out there touring.”

Chasing Truth, hailing from Gilroy, has made an appearance in Clearlake before. The band was a big hit at the 2007 Fun in the Son event, which is hosted annually through the collective efforts of local religious organizations.

“Trends of Fancies” will be opening for the headline band. “They are a young band, too and open for Chasing Truth on a regular basis,” Massingill said. “The young people, their talent is just so amazing!”

The celebration is free and all members of the community are invited. The event will begin with a barbecue from 5 to 6 p.m. Trends of Fancies will take the stage at 6 p.m. with Chasing Truth to follow.

First Assembly of God Church is located at 40th and Snook avenues, behind Foods, Etc. in Clearlake.
