KELSEYVILLE — Wildhurst Tasting room in Kelseyville was packed and tacky on Friday night.
More than 100 women, most wearing gaudy Christmas sweaters, poured into the Main St. business to attend the “Girls Just Wanna Have Wine,” event.
The women are not fashion victims, rather dressing for the theme of the night ? some we”re vying for the coveted “Tackiest Christmas Sweater While Drinking Wine” award.
The event is the sixth of the theme evenings hosted by Wildhurst. There are two a year, one in the Spring and the other in the Fall.
“These are always fun events, for the girlfriends to get together,” Marilyn Holdenried said.
For a $5 charge the women enjoyed wine, gourmet grub like Greek olives, specialty breads, cheeses and stuffed grape leaves. Gourmet chocolate complemented the wines.
“Don”t tell our husbands we were here, they think we”re at a prayer meeting,” Ann Vonwal said.
A room filled with laughter and conversation had another purpose too. Valerie Ramirez is donating 50 percent of the evening”s proceeds to Operation Tango Mike, an organization designed to support the troops overseas. Ramirez” son Gabriel, 22, is currently serving in Tikrit, Iraq.
The two women”s events are open to everyone, not just the Wine Club members.
Past themes include; best shoes, best hat, best earrings, best wine and best handbag- while drinking wine.
Rebecca Dierssen, Susan Rigby and Amy Williams, all of Kelseyville purchased tacky sweaters on eBay specifically for the event. While three sister-in-laws raided their mother-in-laws closet for the gems they referred to as “Carol Huber classics.”
Ramirez released the Wildhurst Port during the event.
