SANTA ROSA — With a 23-32 victory over Cloverdale in its Coastal Mountain Conference finale on Thursday at Spring Lake, the Upper Lake High School varsity boys” cross country team moved into a three-way tie with Cloverdale and Willits atop the CMC standings.

The tie will be broken Wednesday during the CMC Championships at Mendocino College in Ukiah, where the action begins at 2 p.m.

Santa Rosa Christian hosted Thursday”s meet at the 3.05-mile Spring Lake course and it was SRC”s Brandon Hicks winning the boys” race in 16 minutes, 47 seconds. Another SRC runner, Justin Watkins (17:14), came in second and Cloverdale”s Jesse Lee was third (17:34).

Next came a wave of Cougars, led by James Lolonis (17:46) and followed across the finish line by teammates Charlie Coburn (18:19), Mike Dolan (18:22) and Ben Mullin (18:29).

Also for Upper Lake, Fwee Chao finished in 19:29, Kyle Coleman in 19:41, Brandon Lovrin in 22:10 and Cameron Beighle in 23:15.

In the girls” race, Santa Rosa Christian beat Cloverdale and Upper Lake behind Noelle Hosler, who topped the field in 20:29.

Upper Lake”s Ashley Burns was fourth in 21:54.

In frosh-soph action, Upper Lake”s Dakota Fallai came in eighth in 23:29 and Daniel Van Meter was 10th in 23:55.
