CLEARLAKE — It was a special day Saturday at the Park Study Club in Clearlake. The club welcomed an honored guest to its annual fashion show and helped realize the dream of another Orchard Park resident.
Helen Dabney, 87, was hailed “Queen for a Day” and treated to a “Dream Day” experience during the “Golden Girls” fashion show.
“Dream Day” is an ongoing program at Orchard Park Assisted Living and Memory Care Community, in which residents have been given the opportunity to fulfill some of the life”s desires. Park Study Club and Orchard Park staff came together to realize, to the best of their ability, Dabney”s dream to experience a “Paris” fashion show.
Park Study Club brought Paris to Clearlake in effort to give Dabney the experience she”s always dreamed of. “Helen this is your Dream Day,” Joan Edmonds, mistress of ceremonies said. “Today, we”ll treat you to a fashion show with a little French twist.”
Dabney was joined at her table, which was sweetly decorated with an Eiffel Tower, by three generations of Dabney women including her daughter-in-law Cheryl Dabney, granddaughter Jennifer Dabney and great-granddaughter Journey Dabney. Her family shared her joy as she was pampered with gifts and treated to a fashion show full of “merci mercies” and “oow la las.”
The “Golden Girls” fashion show featured apparel from Lisa”s Sizes 3 to 60 of Clearlake. New to this year”s cast of models, was Maxine, who pranced around in outfits from Val”s Pet Paradise of Middletown. Maxine”s canine clothes were complimented with outfits worn by her human escort Jeannie Vierra. Vierra”s selections included comfortable, casuals accessorized with leather, animal-shaped handbags and earrings. Other ensembles dressed the pair for an evening out.
Apparel paraded by Vierra and other models including Pamela Wage, Ann Austin, Sharon VonHaesler and Carol McClune featured colorful prints, versatile solids, comfortable day wear, wash-and-wear fabrics, denims, beautiful silks and elegant evening wear. Jewelry and new footwear available at Lisa”s accented the ensembles.
Highlighting the afternoon event were musical selections by Lisa”s owner Lisa McDonald and her friend Daisy Daughtry. Between fashion rounds, McDonald and Daughtry entertained the crowd with familiar songs as well as one original piece composed by Daughtry. The event also featured a wide variety of raffle and door prizes donated by businesses and supporters throughout the area.
