Thank you Mr. Sweigert for you analysis of my “pitiful” letter, but in your haste to draw conclusions and demonize me, you misconstrued and completely missed the point of my letter. Look once again at my letter if you have not already relegated it to the thrash.

I did not imply that there was any comparison between the Afro-American civil rights movement and the gay movement, only that it was an example of a people fighting for their rights and winning, it is truly an inspiration for any minority. Many gay people joined that movement, Bayard Rustin, Malcolm Boyd, and James Baldwin just to name a few. That alone gives me the right to mention the struggle.

I am perfectly aware of those oft quested lines from Leviticus. But there were other tribal laws that the pious conveniently ignore. Wearing two fabrics together, stoning prostitutes, divorce being complete unacceptable (Remember the woman at the well!) and the command for servants to obey their masters. Are any of these obeyed today, or do we just pick and choose those that enforce our prejudices?

We, the LGBT community are used to name calling, having endured it for many years. But smug does seem to suit you lost comment with the implication that “we”ll show you”.

I respect your right to express your opinions, but in order for this democracy to survive for all people, you must respect my right to be a full pledged citizen enjoying all the rights you now take for granted. We shall overcome!
