Sorry if I offended Mr. Piazza with a rasher of reality, but that is the way the world works in a free market economy, which has given us the world of abundance we enjoy today.

Socialism is central control of production and distribution. There are two kinds: Facism where the impetus, evolution and force come from the upper class. And, Communism arising from the lower classes, but again concentrating power in few hands who become corrupt every time.

In a free market, failure is an option. From the ashes of defeat better ideas arise and we thrive. “One reason,” Mr. Piazza, is that failure cleans the field of the inept. The heirs to the automobile business are in America. They came from abroad, but that is the American way. This is the open, free-market place for better ideas and the people who bring them to us.

Your expression that my ideas should not be allowed is the really dangerous concept in this intercourse. Many have long known GM was suicidal. When they developed the Corvair, an excellent car that lacked one thing: The proper tires. Michelen of France owned the patent on steel belting and GM had a “pay no royalty” policy. They ignored the tires any car with a greatly unequal weight distribution requires make turns. They lost millions in fiery death and maiming lawsuits rather than pay a nickel per tire to an inventor. This is the kind of bone-headed arrogance that needs to fail, Mr. Piazza, and I am not sorry if my passion in these matters is apparent.
