LAKE COUNTY ? Burglars continue to strike on the north end of the lake, bringing the tally of burglaries since the beginning of November to more than 10, according to reports from the Lake County Sheriff”s Office.
A burglary and three attempted burglaries were reported Tuesday at Castlewood Estates Mobile Home Park in Nice, according to Captain James Bauman of the LCSO. While authorities are unable to confirm the crimes are related to burglaries reported in North Lakeport earlier this month, Bauman said the possibility has not been dismissed.
“We are experiencing an inordinate number of burglaries on the north end of the lake, and we are speculating that they are related because of the number of crimes. It”s unusual for us to take this many, and that usually means they were done by the same person or persons,” Bauman said.
Bauman said it appeared outside light bulbs were unscrewed at one home in Castlewood Estates, and entry was made by reaching through a doggie door and unlocking a deadbolt. Stolen items included guns, a camera, a cell phone and jewelry.
The investigating deputy canvassed the area and found three other targeted homes in the mobile home park. Pry marks and window screens that had been removed indicated someone had attempted to enter forcibly, but failed.
“The burglary and attempted burglaries at Castlewood are all similar to the method of entry in the ones we”ve experienced in North Lakeport, that being prying a door or window. Some type of tool was used,” Bauman said.
Four homes were burglarized at Perks Mobile Home Park on Lakeshore Boulevard, and two more were targets of attempted burglary. Two cars were stolen from the park, both recovered within days of the burglaries. Lakeside Village Mobile Home Park, Northport Trailer Resort and Sterling Shores Mobile Home park have also been hit by burglars, as the Record-Bee previously reported.
It”s unknown whether the Nice and North Lakeport burglaries are related to another burglary reported Wednesday morning at Castle Point Ministry in Lucerne, where a thief or thieves removed a glass pane from a set of French doors between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. the previous night. According to Bauman, money was stolen from one of the desks inside. Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call the LCSO non-emergency line at 263-2690.
