Following two and a half years of meetings, a supplemental lease agreement between Mobile Home Park owners and Mobile Home owners (tenants) went to the Board of Supervisors on August 10 and was unanimously approved. Supervisor Anthony Farrington was directed to send a letter to all of the Mobile Home Park owners, asking them to voluntarily agree to offer this lease to all of their tenants.
Following the mailing of the first letter, a follow up letter was sent to help clarify the agreement, and the park owners were asked to sign the letter and return it to the County Courthouse by Nov. 1.
On Nov. 4, I attended the Supervisors meeting for a discussion of the supplemental lease agreement. The response from the Mobile Home Park owners was minimal, with very few owners responding. When two of the representatives of the Mobile Home Park owners spoke, they stated the other park owners didn”t know what this lease was about, or they were confused, and stated they just needed more time.
These two park owners, and others on the task force, were supposed to be representing all the Mobile Home Park owners for the last two and a half years, therefore this should not have come as a surprise to anyone. As a Mobile Home owner, I have been kept well apprised of the lease situation, as our representatives did all within their power to let us know about every single meeting.
It was also stated that the Mobile Home Park owners were having the lease reviewed by their attorney. This came as a surprise to the other members of the task force, as the lease had already been approved, and was sent to County Counsel for review.
This appears to me a weak attempt to delay enacting the long overdue supplemental lease. While the lease is voluntary for the tenants, it will need to be mandatory for the Mobile Home Owners to assure that the senior citizens of Lake County will have the security of knowing that their space rent is not going to increase to a point where they cannot afford to live in the home that they have invested in. The next meeting of the Board of Supervisors that will address this issue is to be held on December 2, at 11:00 a.m. I urge all mobile home owners to attend and let their voices be heard.
