COBB — The sixth annual Holiday in the Pines, Art and Crafts Faire will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7; at the Little Red Schoolhouse (Cobb Mtn. Lions Club), 15780 Bottle Rock Road in Cobb.
Admission is $2 for ages 15 and older.

First Friday Fling at Main Street Gallery
LAKEPORT — The Main Street Gallery”s First Friday Fling”s reception for the artists on Friday, December 5, 2008, from 5:30 p. m to 7:00 p.m. will feature 6 new artists. Jack Cornell with his beautifully executed work in pastels, Ruthie Martin”s fine oils, Ruth Morgan”s lovely watercolors, and Renee Geare”s oils in the impressionistic style. And appropriate to the season will be a display of driftwood Christmas trees.
Continuing in the December show are Terry Rogers” photographs of Lake County, Anne Young and Ruth Winisnicki showing photographs and Sharon Fenton in watercolor. Sunny Franson, Ray Farrow, Reggie Meyers and Nicol Kriz will show their versatile work and style in oil. Bill Blum will continue to delight with his display of finely crafted and whimsical wood pieces and Rod Neswick”s work in carved stone and wood, Lynn Hughes beautifully crafter jewelry would be a treasured Christmas gift. Sophia Lauterborn”s collages will round out this diverse show.
The Linda Carpenter Gallery will again welcome a new group of students from the Cobb Mountain Elementary School. Showing art for the month of December from Middletown Unified Cobb Mount School will be Mrs. Nelson”s kindergarten and Mrs. Ferguson”s sixth grade. Mrs. Nelson”s students based their art on the legend of the poinsettia. After hearing the folktale by Tomi DePola, the class created poinsettia collages in a watercolor and paper cutout medium. Mrs. Ferguson”s students based their art on a symmetry lesson with snowflakes inspired by the historical biography of Wilson “Snowflake” Bentley. Students used the folk art of paper quilling to create three dimensional filigree snowflakes. “It”s very gratifying to have the space and ability to show their work and to know the learning experience that has taken place with their creations,” said Gallery Chairperson Richard Seisser.
Recently making his home in Lake County is Jacob Dance who first entertained us on his acoustic guitar and sang at our Children”s Creative Art Day in October. Jacob will further enhance the evening festivities as you browse the work of local artists in our Gift Shop a good place to shop for that special Christmas gift. Enjoy the fine wines of the fine wines of Steele Winery, sample finger food and meet the featured artists and mingle with other artists and art lovers.

?100 Views of Mount Konocti” fundraiser
Lake County artist Renee Geare will hold a sneak preview showing of her oil painting project, “100 Views of Mount Konocti,” at Lake County Wine Studio in Upper Lake throughout the month of December. The show will open on Friday, Dec. 5, with refreshments and live entertainment from 6 to 9 p.m.
Geare and Lake County Wine Studio will donate a 20-percent portion of the sales toward the county”s acquisition of 1,520 acres on top of Mount Konocti to preserve it as open space. For information, visit www.PreserveKonocti.org.
Bamboo Man benefit for Sutter Lakeside
UPPER LAKE ? The Bamboo Man Benefit Art Show takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, and Saturday, Dec. 6, at Holy Joe”s Cafe, located at First and Main streets in Upper Lake.
This art show is a benefit for the Mobile Medical Unit of Sutter Lakeside (5 percent of art sales) and for Bal Ashram (30 percent of art sales), a non-profit orphanage that teaches children methods of peaceful living through the practice of Yoga as well as techniques in ecological development.
The Mobile Medical Unit for Sutter is an opportunity for people in rural areas to receive health services. There is a grant given to the hospital that will match any donation made up to $100,000. For more information call 262-5171
Bal Ashram is an eco-village orphanage in Varanasi, India. It is in the heart of the oldest continuosly inhabited city in the world. The city has many pollution problems and over crowding. The focus of this orphanage is primarily the children. The children learn how to develop and build sustainably and in harmony with nature.
