LOWER LAKE — Just 12 days and counting until the 15th annual Record-Bee Hoop Classic basketball tournament tips off at Lower Lake High School.

The round-robin-format competition for the county”s junior varsity and varsity boys” teams runs from Dec. 15-20. The Hoop Classic will take place in the old Carl Delgado gym unless the school”s new gymnasium is ready by Dec. 15.

Tournament days are Dec. 15-16 and Dec. 18-20. All teams take Dec. 17 off and each team also has a bye during the week (see schedule at right).

In the event the new gym is not ready, the Middletown-Lower Lake varsity game on Dec. 15 will tip off at 8 p.m. instead of 8:30 p.m. as the scheduled gym dedication ceremony will not be necessary. No other game times will be affected by the change of venue.

Varsity head coaches compete in a 3-point contest Tuesday following the first varsity game between Upper Lake and Middletown. The winner receives a basket of holiday goodies.

Three-point and free-throw contests for junior varsity and varsity players take place Friday and winners will receive special prizes. Winners also receive automatic berths into next year”s tournament (as long as they are not seniors).

All other tournament awards are presented following the final game on Dec. 20.

The Hoop Classic is a fundraiser for the host school”s basketball program. Team entry fees are used to offset the cost of officiating. Gate receipts, snack bar revenues and program sales go to the host high school. Gate prices are set by the host high school.
