ESPARTO — Ryan Richardson scored 14 points and Noel McCormack and Aaron Marshall added 10 apiece as the Clear Lake Cardinals worked over Esparto 64-32 in a non-league varsity boys” basketball game on Tuesday night in Esparto.
It was the season opener for the Cardinals (1-0).
“We were very disorganized at the start,” Clear Lake first-year coach Chris Fisher said. “It took a while for us to settle down and relax.”
Clear Lake”s involvement in the North Coast Section Division IV football playoffs has the Cardinals a bit behind schedule as players such as Richardson, McCormack and Seth Glazier only recently joined the squad.
Clear Lake led 15-6 after one quarter and 28-11 at halftime.
Marshall and Glazier each pulled down seven rebounds and McCormack led the team with five assists and six steals.
Clear Lake returns to action Thursday at 1:30 p.m. against Piedmont in the opening round of the 37th annual Stokes Tournament at Kelseyville High School. Clear Lake”s half of the bracket is loaded with talent, including Justin-Siena and Healdsburg.
