KELSEYVILLE — Piedmont pulled away midway through the fourth quarter and beat Clear Lake 60-45 in a first-round varsity boys” game at the 37th annual Stokes Basketball Tournament, which tipped off Thursday afternoon at Kelseyville High School.

“The kids are all doing well, I was proud of their effort,” Clear Lake co-coach Glenn Wienke said of the Cardinals” effort.

Piedmont, a frequent visitor to the North Coast Section Division IV playoffs, took a 42-29 lead into the fourth quarter. Clear Lake (1-1) whittled that deficit down to eight but could get no closer.

Ryan Richardson led the Cardinals with 10 points and four steals. Corey Dillon added eight points and eight rebounds.

David Black led a balanced Piedmont attack with 13 points, while Ryan Staten and Kai Orans each had 11.

“They were obviously well-coached,” Wienke said of the Highlanders.

Clear Lake plays Healds-burg today at 10:30 a.m. in the consolation semifinals.
