LOWER LAKE — Steven Edwards capped a 31-point night with a three-point play with 33.6 seconds rem-aining as the Clear Lake Cardinals built as much as a 19-point lead, lost most of it and then recovered to beat the Kelseyville Knights 64-51 in a Record-Bee Hoop Classic junior varsity game on Thursday at Lower Lake.
Edwards” three-play play might not have been significant in terms of the final score, but it established a new Hoop Classic single-game scoring record in the JV division, breaking the old mark of 28 by Lower Lake”s David Clark in 2006.
Clear Lake, now 2-0 in the tournament standings, led 49-32 early in the fourth quarter and was cruising along until Max Huff rallied the Knights, who got as close as 51-43. Huff scored 12 of his team-leading 22 points in the final period.
John Glazier joined Edwards in double figures with 10 points.
Dustin Thaxton had nine points for Kelseyville, now 1-1 in the tourney standings.
Lower Lake 58, Upper Lake 41
In the late JV game Thursday matching two 0-2 teams, the Lower Lake Trojans used a big third quarter to run away from the Upper Lake Cougars. Lower Lake outscored Upper Lake 25-7 in the period after the Cougars had gone into halftime with a 20-19 lead.
Upper Lake was never closer than 14 points in the fourth quarter.
Scott Zandt scored a team-high 18 points for the Trojans, E.J. Jermany added 10 points and Alphonzos Daniels had eight.
Tyler Warren”s 15 points paced the Cougars and Billy Armstrong had seven.
