BRENTWOOD — Upper Lake High School”s wrestling team is on a roll.
Two days after wrapping up the championship in the Fort Bragg Tournament on Saturday, their second tourney title in as many weekends, the Cougars were back on the mat Monday at the Liberty Tournament in Brentwood.
“I took seven wrestlers down here and all seven made it to the second day,” Upper Lake coach Tom Cox said. “Five are 3-0 and in the quarterfinals and the other two are 2-1.”
Advancing to today”s quarterfinals were James Lolonis at 103 pounds, Brandon Sneathen at 140 pounds, Ben Britton at 160 pounds, Brian Hatfield at 181 pounds and Randy Dickinson at 215 pounds.
Britton scored a last-second victory in one of his matches to stay in the running for first place, according to Cox.
“Ben had a great day,” Cox said.
Robbie Avery was upset in a match on Monday but also had two wins and can still finish as high as third place at 145 pounds. Also in the running for third is Upper Lake 285-pounder Sam Wurm.
