A video summary of public concerns regarding the Provinsalia Golf Community has been posted online at http://laketv8.pegcentral.com.
“We”re wondering how this even got so far,” states producer Melinda Young in her video report. “There were 20 people who came up to the podium at the (Dec. 2) planning commission meeting and 19 of them were opposed to this. They brought up very strong arguments about why this project did not need to happen before certain things were done.”
Lake County residents have access to a Public, Education and Government (PEG) channel through the City of Clearlake”s franchise agreement with Mediacom. Locally-produced programming airs on Mediacom Channel TV8.
Station manager Allen Markowski recently announced that TV8 is able to stream video content on its online site. A visit to the site on Monday, Dec. 29, confirmed that two productions are available for viewing, both produced by Melinda Young. One is the report on Provinsalia and the other is an interview with Clearlake City Councilmember Roy Simons.
Lake County Resort Partners LLC proposes to build 600 single-family and 120 attached homes on 292.2 acres of land in the southeast corner of Clearlake, east of Dam Road and north of Cache Creek. The Provinsalia Golf Community would include a nine-hole public golf course and clubhouse that would occupy 80 acres. An additional 77.2 acres would be devoted to passive open space.
The property is presently zoned “Resource Protection and Environment.” Lake County Resort Partners LLC It is requesting a General Plan amendment to change designation of the site to “Specific Plan” with an accompanying rezone of the property.
Young summarizes several concerns raised by members of the public during the Dec. 2 hearing before the City of Clearlake Planning Commission. The No. 1 concern, according to Young, is that the sewer system needs enlarging and updating. Other concerns address availability of water, the need for commercial development instead of more residential, potential legal action stemming from carbon emissions and tree removal from the site, impacts on traffic and upon Konocti district schools.
