LAKEPORT — The Main Street Gallery”s First Friday Fling reception for the artists, 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, will feature the showings of five new artists.
Meredith Gambrel continues to amaze us with her talent to execute fine oil paintings. Michelle Patrick will be showing uniquely painted crystal goblets and lamps; while John Jennings brings some of the outdoors inside with his finely executed ink drawings of nature. Shelby Posada returns to this show with new work of bright florals in pastels and acrylics. Pastels are a new medium for Posada, thanks to the classes offered at the gallery under the tutelage of Richard Seisser. Floyd Surber”s wonderfully executed metal sculptures will be shown, as will his well crafted jewelry.
There will be two formal dedications made at the January reception. A plaque will be presented to Betty Lou Surber to hang in the gallery in honor of Floyd Surber”s many years of service to the Lake County Arts Council. A second plaque will be accepted by Richard Seisser on behalf of the Gallery and officially naming the student gallery as the Linda Carpenter Gallery.
For the first time, a show of abstract art, juried by the well recognized artist, John Eells, will hang in the Linda Carpenter Gallery. The producer for this show and also the designer for the First Friday Fling posters is the well know artist, Ray Farrow, who will be donating one of his original abstracts for the evening”s drawing.
The Linda Carpenter Gallery will continue to show student work and also feature special hangings in 2009.
Continuing in the January show are Terry Rodgers” photographs of Lake County, Jack Cornell in pastels, Ruthie Martin”s fine oils, Ruth Morgan”s lovely watercolors and Renee Geare”s oils in the impressionistic style. Angela Greenwell”s photo display from around the world, Rod Neswick”s work in carved stone and wood and Sophie Lauterborn”s collages will round out this diverse show.
Please join us for this evening of art, meet the featured artists, mingle with other artists and art lovers and enjoy the mellow sounds of Drew Titchelar on guitar while you sample appetizers and the fine wines of Lake County. Special thanks in the beginning of this new year to Six Sigma, Lantry Vineyards, Cougar”s Leap, Moore Family Winery, Tulip Hill, Shannon Ridge Winery, Rosa d”Ora, Guenoc, Gregory Graham Wines, Terrill Cellars, Wildhust Vineyards and Steele Wines for participating in this monthly community event of the arts in 2008.
