LOWER LAKE — Former Middletown High School football and basketball standout Josh Gipson has accepted a full-ride football scholarship to Southeast Missouri State University, a Division I-AA college, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Gipson began his high school career at Lower Lake before transferring to Middletown for his senior year. As a Mustang, he helped the Mustangs reach the playoffs in both football and basketball. He was named the co-MVP on the 2006 All-North Central League I North basketball team.

Gipson, who graduated from Middletown in June of 2006, continued his athletic career at Mendocino College in Ukiah, where he was among the Eagles” top defensive linemen during the 2007 and 2008 football seasons.

The son of Mike and Laurie Gipson, Josh weighed several scholarship offers before accepting Southeast Missouri State”s, according to Laurie Gipson.

At Mendocino College, Josh received his associate”s degree. He plans to pursue a career in criminal justice at Southeast Missouri State.

The Redhawks finished 4-8 in 2008, including a 2-6 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference.
