CLEARLAKE — Lake County Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire on Lelabelle Boulevard in early morning hours Thursday. The fire caused extensive damage to the interior of the residence.

According to LCFPD Battalion Chief Willie Sapeta the fire is being considered as suspicious in nature and an investigation is currently under way.

Sapeta said the structure was about a quarter involved upon fire units” arrival around 5:16 a.m. Suppression efforts and clean up continued until about 9:30 a.m. when units cleared the scene.

Sapeta, further reported the structure had multiple attics, which presented difficulties in extinguishing the blaze. “Due to some construction issues it was very labor intensive,” Sapeta said. “We had to call in mutual aid from Clearlake Oaks and CalFire.”

The incident occurred at 14900 Lelabelle Blvd. across from the Mendo Mill storage yard. Sapeta said the fire resulted in a complete loss due to extensive damage to the interior of the residence. “The interior was pretty gutted from the extent of the fire,” he said.

LCFPD responded to the blaze with four fire engines, a water tender and a medic unit. No injuries were reported. Residents of the home, four adults and one child, have reportedly been assisted with care and shelter by the Red Cross.
