ANGWIN — Tyler Thesman scored 40 points — five more than his season average — to lead Pacific Union Prep past the Lower Lake Trojans 56-43 in a non-league varsity boys” basketball game on Thursday night in Angwin.
“He was the total difference,” Lower Lake coach Marty Udy said. “I had no answer for him and if (David) Clark was out of the game, there was nothing we could do against him.”
Clark, Lower Lake”s big man, led the Trojans (3-13) with 18 points.
Thesman is a 6-foot-8 all-purpose player who is a Division I prospect, according to Udy.
“Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Riverside are very interested in him,” Udy said. “He”s legitimate. He”s the best player we”ve seen this season.”
Lower Lake held a 23-19 halftime lead but it was pretty much all Thesman in the second half.
“He looks like he”s 22,” Udy said. “He shoots threes, he goes in and out, he dunks,” Udy said.
Lower Lake”s night started out well as the Trojans (3-13) owned a 12-5 lead after one quarter.
Besides Clark, only Paul Bailey (12 points) found the scoring column much for the Trojans.
The Trojans, losers of six straight, will try and change their fortunes Saturday night when they host St. Helena in a North Central League I interlock game in their new gym at 7:30 p.m.
