LOWER LAKE — While the Lower Lake Trojans have the ability to score from anywhere on the floor, neither their inside or outside games had much success Saturday night in a 55-34 North Central League I interlock loss to the St. Helena Saints, the first varsity girls” basketball game played in Lower Lake”s new gym.

“We”d get the ball inside but we couldn”t find the basket,” Lower Lake coach Andrew Carpenter said. “And we didn”t score much from the outside. It just seemed like we weren”t quite in sync.”

While neither team could do much on offense in an 8-8 first quarter, the Saints began to find the range during a 20-point second quarter that put them comfortably in front to stay.

“St. Helena, that”s a solid team top to bottom,” Carpenter said of the Saints.

Maddy Densberger led the Saints with 15 points, 11 of those coming in the second period.

Lower Lake (5-12) got within five points with a 6-0 run to open the third quarter, but the Saints pushed their lead back into double digits by quarter”s end — 40-25 — and the Trojans were never closer than 11 points in the final period.

“Darlena White being in foul trouble didn”t help,” Carpenter said of his senior center, who eventually fouled out late in the fourth quarter with only eight points.

April White”s 13 points paced the Trojans. Holle DePina had 11 points for the Saints.
