UKIAH — The Mendocino College women”s soccer team recently celebrated a successful season during an awards banquet hosted by George and Sherry Diener.
Two members of the Eagles” squad — Candy Diener and Lauren Moses — received first-team Bay Valley Conference honors this past season. Second-team honors went to Brittany Castaneda and Yesenia Diaz.
Diener, a former Clear Lake High School standout, also was named the BVC”s goakeeper of the year. The freshman recored seven shutouts as Mendocino finished 9-9-2 overall.
The Lady Eagles selected Moses as Most Valuable Defensive Player and Julie Jackson, another former Clear Lake High School standout, as Most Valuable Offensive Player. Tasha Herrera was voted Most Inspirational and Arisbeth Lopez was named Most Improved.
The Coaches Award went to Kymber DeNevi, while Taylor Daly received the Freshman of the Year award.
“We are looking forward to next season,” head coach Duncan McMartin said.
Players interested in playing next season should contact McMartin. Mendocino College is also offering an eight-week soccer class beginning at the end of January. Class days are Monday and Wednesday.
Pamela Campbell, assistant coach for the Eagles, will teach the class.
