The primary suspect in an alleged attempted murder incident that occurred in November 2008 has been remanded into local custody. Patrick Dewin McDaniel, 44, of Glenhaven was booked into Lake County Jail Thursday, on multiple charges including attempted murder.
The attempted murder charge stems from a Nov. 26 shooting incident that occurred on Second Street in Clearlake Oaks. McDaniel and his brother Cecil McDaniel Jr., 37, had reportedly been involved in an argument with Patrick Joseph O”Conner, 42, of Clearlake Oaks and his son James O”Connor, 23. The argument turned physical and at some point, Patrick McDaniel allegedly pulled a handgun from beneath his clothing, struck Patrick O”Conner in the face with it and then shot him once in the chest.
The McDaniel brothers had fled the scene and deputies were unable to locate them immediately following the incident. However, while conducting follow-up activities on Dec. 3, deputies located Cecil McDaniel and he was reportedly taken into custody without incident. He was booked into Lake County Jail for felony accessory to a crime while his brother remained at large. Cecil McDaniel remains in custody with his next court appearance scheduled for Feb. 2. The prosecutor assigned to the case is Deputy District Attorney Sharon Lerman.
Patrick McDaniel remained at large until Dec. 17 when he was located and arrested on a fugitive warrant by the Las Vegas Metropolitan in Las Vegas. He was reportedly extradited by the U.S. Marshals Office from the Clark County Jail in Nevada to San Quentin State Prison in early December where he was held on a related parole violation.
Lake County Superior Court Judge Stephen Hedstrom signed a removal order on Jan. 26 and the suspect was transported back to Lake County on Thursday, Jan. 29.
Patrick McDaniel was booked into Lake County Jail on charges related to the November incident including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and accessory to a crime. He is also being held on a bench warrant for failure to appear on a prior felony narcotics offense and California Department of Corrections parole hold. The prosecutor assigned to his case is Deputy District Attorney Ed Borg.
The McDaniel brothers remain in the custody of the Lake County Sheriff pending adjudication of the attempted murder case.
