LAKEPORT — The Northern California Racing Association and the North State Racing Association have agreed to run a King of the Hill Challenge Series between the Lakeport and Ukiah speedways during the upcoming 2009 season.
Regular-season point races will alternate between the two tracks from April 4 through Sept. 6. Championship points will be accumulated in the same manner at both tracks, and a King of the Hill Challenge Series champion will be awarded for each racing class at season”s end.
The two tracks participated in a King of the Hill Challenge in 2007 but not last season. Classes this year include modifieds, mini-stocks, street stocks and bombers. Also appearing will be several touring classes including Late Models, Legends, Bay Cities Racing Association midgets and vintage midgets, and the Thunder Roadsters.
Lakeport Speedway is a quarter-mile asphalt track that is slightly banked with short straights and four distinct turns. It emphasizes handling, traction management and split-second decisions. Ukiah Speedway is a quarter-mile aspholt track that is moderately banked with long straights. It emphasizes power and responsiveness from the high-speed straights to the 180-degree turns at either end.
Also new this season at both tracks will be Figure-8 races on the infield by demolition-derby-type cars.
Each racing event will be independently run by the management teams at each track with a common set of class rules and series guidelines. Noel McCormack Sr. will handle track arbitration.
