What a shame so many animals dying in one week from one incident (Pitbulls maul sheep). How shameful the owner most likely will not come forward and accept the responsibility for his dogs. And apparently there is an owner since one dog appears to be wearing a collar – unless they were abandoned. But if they were abandoned who, as the article states, cleaned up the female dog? Neither do the dogs appear to be underfed so someone was caring for them.

We all need to take responsibility for our actions and problems we have created or allowed to happen. I say “created” because it is my firm belief that aggression in dogs is 99 percent attributable to the way they are treated(or not treated as the case may be).

Mr. Lolonis sustained a great loss and he should not have to go to the state for only partial reimbursement of his loss. I think the $5,000 figure mentioned is a modest estimate considering the cost and time of the officials handling the matter, the cost to Animal Control to care for the dogs and then euthanize them, and the emotional distress of all involved. Even the dogs suffered a loss – their lives.

Some may disagree with me on this but all animals are here for a purpose – be it the dog who has lessons to teach people such as loyalty, trust and unconditional love or the big cats maintaining population control.

Where is the loyalty to these dogs that the dogs gave to their owner? To just let them be euthanized is not right.

Yes, $5,000 is a small price for “moral” peace of mind. Mr. Lolonis and the dogs deserve it. But then again, the only thing the dogs will be receiving is death – because of an irresponsible owner.
