UPDATED:

Bryce Brin and Gregory Johnson Jr. met the first day of kindergarten at Pomo Elementary School in 1993. And a special bond of friendship began that has lasted all through the years of school and beyond.

As a way to honor their friendship and deal with the loss of his best friend and all of the questions surrounding his death, Bryce is establishing the Gregory Johnson Jr. Memorial Scholarship. If you did not have the privilege of knowing him here are just a few of the things you should know about Greg. He had a bigger than life personality, and a very contagious smile, and always a song to sing. Greg also had many accomplishments in his much too short life. He was an ordained minister, student body vice-president, activities director, drama student, athletic trainer for Lower Lake High School and Lakeshore Lions Club student speaker contest runner-up. Greg won the local contest, he won zone (which is all of our county) and took runner-up at the district level (which is from Eureka to Vallejo).

He was a member of the Academic Decathlon team with numerous medals and a member of the wrestling team, which he loved. You may have encountered Greg working at the water-park or Wal-Mart. Greg was currently a student of San Jose State University, where he had earned his Associate”s Degree in Political Science and was working toward his Kinesiology degree to become a sports medicine doctor. He was also a member of Sigma Chi Epsilon Theta chapter, also the wrestling club.

Greg was very close to his family to which he was lovingly known as “Boobie.” He was also close to his Praises of Zion family, as well as Bryce and his family and many in the community. He is greatly missed by all!

To that spirit anyone that would like to see the legacy of such an exemplary young man carried on, are invited to make donations to his memorial scholarship. An account has been set up at Bank of the West, 15050 Olympic Dr., Clearlake, to help another awesome young person go on to college. For more information, feel free to call Karen Ness at 994-2307.
