My dearest friends; the wife who has a career within the University of California system and her husband who is in the teaching profession, grades 9-12, tell me that all of their monies saved for nearly 30 years ? that they have worked overtime as well for and saved for ? is gone! Because of the present economic crisis in America, their 401K, etc. savings for their child”s higher education is just gone!
Middle class American children do not qualify for financial aid because their parent”s incomes are “too high” ? and ? the children also cannot be employed at the universities as student workers for the same reason, yet with a loss of all savings, there is literally no money to send their children to college.
The executives making the decisions that eventuated in our present economic collapse further slapped the faces of all of those who believed in them ? parents who have been saving for years for their children”s and their own retirement futures ? when they gave themselves generous remunerations. In my opinion as a senior citizen, I believe that they should be imprisoned for unethical behaviors, failure to achieve forecasted goals and outcomes, and for embezzlement of funds.
Are they going to be required to pay back these losses?
We cannot send the message to America that if you have enough money you can get away with anything, including theft of taxpayer monies. As Americans we have the right and responsibility to invest in America and we have a right to be assured that we are safe at home from those who would lie, cheat and steal from us.
Equal rights include equal responsibilities. If I do not pay my electric bill, my lights go out. Shouldn”t theirs?
