CLEARLAKE — A Kelseyville man was arrested following a brief foot pursuit Tuesday evening and booked into Lake County Jail on eight felony charges and two misdemeanor violations. David Moreno, 39, was apprehended around 9:10 p.m. Feb. 17 by Clearlake Police after he allegedly broke into a residence and assaulted a 71-year-old man.
Clearlake Police Lt. Mike Hermann reported that Moreno showed up a residence on 35th Avenue and began banging on the door while verbally threatening the victim inside the home, whom he apparently believed had spoken badly about him. When the victim refused to let Moreno in, he allegedly tried breaking the door in but was unsuccessful in his attempt. He then walked around the residence and reportedly broke out a window, which he then climbed through.
When inside the residence, Moreno allegedly continued yelling at the victim while threatening to “kill” him. Hermann reported that Moreno then chased the victim down and began beating him about his face and body. He also bit the victim”s right hand causing a moderate-sized laceration, according to the report.
Moreno apparently fled the residence when two of the victim”s caregivers came to his assistance.
When officer arrived to the area, they reportedly located the suspect in the area of 31st Avenue and, following a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended him and took him into custody. Moreno was reportedly found to be in possession of a purse belonging to one of the caregivers when he was apprehended.
Moreno was booked on eight felony charges including robbery, force (not a firearm) likely to cause great bodily injury, causing harm/death of elder/dependent, threatening a crime with intent to terrorize, first degree burglary, receiving/etc. stolen property, petty theft with prior jail term for the same and felony parole violation. He was also charged on two misdemeanor counts including vandalism and obstructing/resisting a peace officer.
The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
