To Barbara Christman from Los Gatos. This is my response to you regarding your misfortune on Highway 175, Hopland. It is a beautiful road from Highway 101 to Lake County, but it is also a very dangerous road with a lot of accidents per year on it. The officers of the California Highway Patrol, with the help of the airplane, are doing you and other motorists a service; protecting you from head-on collisions.
The price of the ticket is expensive, but you will never forget it and why you got it. You have to look at this time with open eyes. How many head-on collisions have you read about in the papers where the driver went over the double-yellow line? How many people have died because someone went over the double-yellow line? How many hours of officers” time have been spent with families because someone went over the double-yellow line?
So, for a little misfortune, you will say to yourself, “I will not do it again. This time I was lucky and I did not meet a vehicle that was over the double-yellow line.”
