CLEARLAKE — Roy Hawk of Salt Lake City, Utah, captured the FLW-Outdoors Stren Series Pro-Am bass tournament Saturday at Clear Lake with a three-day weight of 73 pounds, 7 ounces and took home a new Ranger bass boat as well as a check for more than $20,000.

Going into the final day, Hawk was in eighth place in the pro standings with 40 pounds, 7 ounces. He grabbed the title with a final-day catch of 33 pounds that was anchored with a 12-pound-plus bass and a 10-pounder.

Hawk said he concentrated on the area around Rattlesnake Island on Thursday. On Friday he switched to Soda Bay, but on Saturday he went back to Rattlesnake Island. He said he caught his fish on jigs and Luckycraft crankbaits such as the LV500 and a deep-diving lure.

Steve Ericksen of San Jose led the field for the first two days of the tournament but ended up in second place and received a check for $8,169. His three-day weight total was 71 pounds, 1 ounce.

Erickson said he caught most of his fish on swimbaits.

Local bass pro Jeff Billings of Clearlake entered Saturday”s round in third place but finished in 10th for $2,859.

Kyle Baker of Lancaster won the co-angler division with a three-day total of 50 pounds, 11 ounces. He won a new Ranger bass boat.

Mark White of Tucson, Ariz., finished nine ounces behind Baker with 50-2 and won $3,391.

Tommie Goldston of Gardnerville, Nev., the leader after each of the first two rounds, slipped to ninth overall after bringing just 5 pounds, 11 ounces to the scales on Saturday. He finished with 43 pounds, 6 ounces and received a check for $1,060.

The tourney drew 148 pros and 148 co-anglers and went out of Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa on Thursday and Firday. The field was cut to the top 10 pros and amateurs on Saturday, when the weigh-in took place at Wal-Mart in Clearlake.
