POTTER VALLEY — Kristen Garcia scattered six hits and her Lower Lake High School teammates supported her with 20 hits in a 16-6 non-league softball victory over the Potter Valley Bearcats on Monday in Potter Valley.

Garcia struck out seven and walked five as the Trojans (1-2) won for the first time this season.

Lower Lake sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 11 times in the top of the fourth inning to go ahead 14-0. All 11 runs scored with two outs.

Leading the Lower Lake hit parade was Darlena White, who went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Christine Powers went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Maria Copas also had three hits. Mirella Valencia, Stefanie Mederos, Danielle McKay and Ashley Willard added two hits apiece.

Garcia pitched another gem for Lower Lake in a 3-0 non-league loss to Arcata on Saturday in Healdsburg. She allowed only two hits in six innings, struck out six and walked three.

Valencia and Mederos had Lower Lake”s only hits.

Baseball

El Molino 11, Lower Lake 1

At Forestville, Jesus Fonseca went 2-for-3 with a RBI as the Lower Lake Trojans fell to the El Molino Lions in non-league varsity baseball action.

Lower Lake was trailing 2-0 when Fonseca came to the plate with runners at first and second and two outs in the top of the third. He singled into the right-center field gap to score teammate George Novak, but Joe Riggs was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

“Fonseca stepped up big-time and also made a couple of nice plays in the field (at shortstop),” Lower Lake coach Chris Emberson said.

Novak pitched the first 3 2/3 innings and took the loss.

The game was called in the bottom of the sixth because of the 10-run rule.

Clear Lake 11, Pierce 1 (first game)

Pierce 4, Clear Lake 3 (second game)

At Lakeport, the Clear Lake Cardinals split a Saturday doubleheader with the Pierce Bears, winning the first game in a rout and losing a pitcher”s duel in the nightcap.

In the second game, Pierce scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 1-1 tie. Clear Lake answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and had the potential tying run on third base when a flyball to right ended the game.

Ryan Hansford pitched the first four innings and received a no-decision after allowing just three hits and no earned runs. He struck out two and walked one.

“Ryan Hansford was phenomenal,” Clear Lake coach Paul Larrea said. “He threw only 54 pitches.”

Christian Coddington took over in the fifth inning and was charged with the loss.

Noel McCormack went 2-for-4 with a RBI and Ryan Richardson went 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI for the Cardinals, now 2-2 on the season.

The opener was all Clear Lake as the game was called after 4 ? innings because of the 10-run rule. Winning pitcher Corey Dillon and reliever Richardson combined on a five-hitter.

At the plate, McCor-mack had two hits (he has eight in Clear Lake”s first four games), one of them of a double, and Dillon went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Coddington added two hits and two RBIs.

“Our pitching is in good shape and we”re a pretty good defensive team so far,” Larrea said. “In both of our losses we”ve had either the winning or tying runs on base when the game ended, so we could be 4-0.”
