PETALUMA — Miriam Lane prevailed 6-2, 6-2 in first singles and the Middletown Mustangs won both doubles matches on Tuesday to beat St. Vincent 3-2 in non-conference tennis action at Petaluma.
Lane is a freshman and the younger sister of former Middletown great Hannah Lane.
“I think she”s going to be hard to beat,” Middletown coach Marc Morita said. “She”s got some strong strokes.”
Middletown”s Chase Mannisto and Tyler Madsen rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) win in first doubles, and Jason Candelario and Luis Pimentel were 6-2, 6-1 winners in second doubles.
In other matches, Jeanine Zolczynski fell 6-1, 6-4 in second singles, and Tasha Gibbs lost 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 in third singles.
Middletown (2-0) opened the season with a 3-2 road victory on Friday in Calistoga. The Mustangs return to action Friday in Lakeport.
