LOWER LAKE — Darlena White is exactly that — white hot at the plate — after going 4-for-4 for the second game in a row for the Lower Lake High School softball team.
White, a senior, also tripled twice and drove in seven runs as the Trojans built a 11-1 lead and then held on to beat Geyserville 14-10 in a non-league game Tuesday at Lower Lake.
Lower Lake improved to 2-2 and now has as many wins as it had all of last season (2-14).
“We beat a good team and a good pitcher,” Lower Lake coach Tim Sherrell said of Geyserville senior pitcher Jocelyn Hale, who struck out eight and walked six.
Hale also went 2-for-5, including a two-run home run, as the Bronchos scored five runs in their final two at-bats to make things interesting.
The Trojans pounded out 13 hits in posting their second straight victory. Besides White, Christine Powers went 2-for-2, Katherine Dahneke went 2-for-4 and freshman Jordan Isaacs went 2-for-2 with a double.
“Isaacs came in at the last second and played first for us,” Sherrell said. “She really came through.”
While the Trojans are off to a good start in 2009, Sherrell said there is plenty of room for improvement, noting Lower Lake”s six errors.
Winning pitcher Kristen Garcia went the distance, allowing five hits, striking out four and walking six.
