Another incident of violence, another twisted soul with a weapon, another lifeless body, this time in a church, a house of worship. No one bothers these days to ask “Why” or “Who,” the most disturbing aspect of this and other incidents that occur with frequency is that there is no longer surprise or outrage.
Perhaps America has become immune to violence with its long history of Indian massacres, gay bashing and lynching”s. But it has been saved from the “moral degradation” of same-sex marriage.
How about $60 million to remove hand guns from the mentally ill and make the streets and churches and shopping malls safe? Are you crazy; take away sportsmen and private citizens” right to bear arms?
But it appears perfectly acceptable to deny marriage to those who love each other, simply because they are of the same gender.
When those shots ring out again and another victim falls, I hope those who voted no for Proposition 8 will reflect that they just might have picked the wrong battle to fight, the wrong people to transgress and the wrong way to “save” America.
Realizing this country”s legacy and celebration of violence, I realize this is an idle dream, but I still hope that someday, love will trump violence.
