What are education”s benefits? It is social security for us! It is the future of our country. It is the culmination of all civilizations of human history. The lessons in every genre and specialty have been honed in the oven of history. Education exercises our critical thinking muscles and gives us the knowledge to make logical decisions and choices. Hopefully, we can, once in a while, learn the lessons of history and not repeat them. Emergency services and education should be the last things cut. Cutting education is sacrificing the future for the present.
Every cut to education assists in creating dual school systems. Public for the middle and lower classes and private for the more fortunate. That promotes an inter-generational aristocracy and a permanent under-class. What is wrong with that? Ignorance lowers the average intelligence quotient for the entire body public. Education is a requirement for skilled workers to provide a workforce to any employer. Workers and leaders are created in university classes, if our education is watered down, our workers and leaders of tomorrow will be less than they could be.
The world is getting more competitive and we are losing our advantage. Our innovative and creative people are not getting the education to be on the cutting edge of green tech or biotech. The answer: college should be free for the top students, regardless of income, or our intellectual capital will be wasted and we cannot afford that.
