CALISTOGA — The Lower Lake Trojans couldn”t get their bats going Thursday against Calistoga, but they generated enough offense for winning pitcher Kristen Garcia in a 6-2 victory over the Wildcats in non-league softball action at Calistoga.

Garcia, who struck out nine and walked five, nursed a 3-2 lead into the top of the seventh inning when the Trojans tacked on their final three runs.

“Those insurance runs were big,” Lower Lake coach Tim Sherrell said.

Garcia actually got stronger as the game went along, according to Sherrell. She pitched shutout ball until the bottom of the fifth when the Wildcats struck for both of their runs, cutting Lower Lake”s lead to 3-2.

“She pitched a 1-2-3 seventh and struck out the last two hitters,” Sherrell said.

The Trojans staked Garcia to a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth. In the bottom half of the inning, Calistoga”s bid to get on the scoreboard was thwarted by third baseman Christine Powers, who fielded a grounder and threw home for the out, catcher Darlena White applying the tag.

White went 2-for-4 for Lower Lake (4-3), which returns home today to play Calistoga at 3:30 p.m.
