MIDDLETOWN — Eric Schenck pretty much had things his own way on Wednesday as the Middletown High School junior varsity baseball team beat Cloverdale 17-5 in a non-league game at Middletown.
The contest was stopped after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Schenk pitched a complete-game six-hitter, striking out eight and walking two. He had a 10-0 lead to work with ? nine of those runs scoring in the first inning ? before Cloverdale broke through with five runs in the top of the fourth.
“Eric did a great job,” Middletown coach Charles Russ said.
Schenck also went 4-for-5 with a double and five RBIs. Dustin Rudiger added three hits and Austin Hunter, Andre Fernandez and Jonathan Tanguay had two hits apiece.
