LAKEPORT — St. Helena edged Clear Lake 3-2 in a Coastal Mountain Conference tennis match on Friday afternoon in Lakeport.
The visiting Saints won all three of the singles matches while the Cardinals swept the doubles portion of the match.
KC White dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision in first singles and Tony Valdez fell 6-4, 6-0 in second singles. In third singles, Clear Lake”s Claire Mansell, making her high school singles debut, won the first set 6-4, lost 6-4 in the second set and then dropped a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a traditional third set, falling 10-7.
“That”s the first time she”s ever played singles and she did an awesome job,” Clear Lake coach Rik Hayes said.
In doubles play, Hayden Gilbert and Humberto Perez won 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles, and Darcy McCarrick and Bubba Logan won 6-3, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles.
The Cardinals hit the road Tuesday to play Anderson Valley in Boonville.
