With miles of muddy, unpaved streets that have continued to deteriorate for the city”s entire 25-year history, how are the City of Clearlake”s current residents to view the city taking on a commitment to maintain streets for 650 “upscale” homes and a golf course out on the edge of town?
There is a reason why people have come out in overwhelming opposition to this project. When a city government sits the developer”s lawyer at their table and shuts down public input based upon that lawyer”s advice ? when a city council rushes to a vote on a controversial project with two of its own council members not present, something is wrong.
As council member Roy Simons attempted to say before being cut off by Mayor Chuck Leonard, a city that has been unable to take care of its most basic responsibilities for its entire history should not be looking to expand.
Simons went on: This project is supposed to make money for the city “? don”t you believe it.”
