CLEARLAKE OAKS ? North Shore Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire on Driftwood Village in the Clearlake Oaks Keys area shortly before midnight on Tuesday. The fire was contained and cleaned up in approximately two hours.
According to NSFPD Chief Jim Robbins an observant neighbor was the first to spot the fire. “The fire was spotted by a neighbor from across the lagoon,” he said. “The resident was home but there was no smoke inside the house and he had no idea that there was a fire on the roof.”
The fire reportedly originated in the chimney of the house and spread to the roof and attic area. “It was a very good stop by the firefighters,” Chief Robbins said, adding an estimate of $15,000 for damage to the roof, attic and a little bit of sheetrock.
NSFPD was assisted by units from the Lake County Fire Protection District. “It took about 25 minutes to put the fire out and about an hour and a half to clean it up,” Chief Robbins said. “We put salvage tarps inside the house to protect the belongings and we had to get all that out. So, overall it was about two hours on scene.”
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
