ST. HELENA — Expecting a tough test against the St. Helena Saints, the Middletown Mustangs instead cruised to a 5-0 Coastal Mountain Conference tennis win on Friday in St. Helena.
And that”s only part of the good news for Middletown tennis coach Marc Morita, who is now the proud father of a 6-pound, 2-ounce baby girl. Lily Alden Morita, measuring 18 ? inches long, was born 5:30 a.m. on Thursday after 27 hours of labor. Both baby Lily and mom Jessica are doing fine, according to Marc.
It”s the first child for Marc and Jessica.
In Friday”s match against St. Helena, Middletown won four of the five matches in straight sets. In singles, Miriam Lane beat Lucas Walter 6-1, 6-0 in first singles, Tasha Gibbs defeated Kyle Jimenez 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 in second singles, and Jeanine Zolczynski defeated Kenzie Fetzer 6-3, 6-1 in third singles.
In doubles play, Chase Mannisto and Jason Candelario were 6-2, 7-5 winners over Kiera Louttit and Hillary Hoppe in No. 1 doubles, and Will Phelps and Jerry Espinoza beat Callie Flood and Chelsea Hoff 6-1,6-0 in No. 2 doubles.
Kelseyville 5, Clear Lake 0
At Lakeport, losing only one set, Kelseyville improved to 6-0 with a Coastal Mountain Conference shutout of the Clear Lake Cardinals.
Stuart Davy needed three sets to beat KC White, 6-0, 5-7, 6-0, in first singles. The other four matches were decided in straight sets.
Moses Kuzu beat Nate Seacrest 6-1, 6-2 in second singles, while Robbie Jones spoiled Darcy McCarrick”s singles debut with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in third singles.
In doubles play, David Ferrario and Steven McQueen battled Clear Lake”s Tony Valdez and Hayden Gilbert before prevailing 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). In second doubles, Glenn Mostin and Alex Stempe beat Claire Mansell and Humberto Perez 6-3, 6-2.
Clear Lake is at Cloverdale on Tuesday and Kelseyville hosts Middletown.
