CLEARLAKE ? A vehicle crash on Phillips Avenue at 39th on Friday resulted in charges against the driver. David Wayne Bryant, 48, of Clearlake was arrested for felony driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or drugs causing bodily injury following the incident, which occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. March 27.

Clearlake Police Lt. Mike Hermann reported that Bryant was charged with driving on a suspended license as well.

“Bryant was witnessed driving at a high-rate of speed as he turned onto Phillips from 40th Avenue,” Lt. Hermann reported. “He lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a telephone pole causing moderate injuries to his passenger, Troy Davis, 37, of Clearlake.”

According to Lt. Hermann, investigation of the incident determined that Bryant had been drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana prior to the incident. Lt. Hermann said that officers determined that Bryant was under the influence at the time of the crash.

Bryant and Davis were reportedly transported to the hospital for medical treatment. After obtaining medical clearance, Bryant was taken to the Lake County Jail were he was booked on DUI charges.
