BUCKINGHAM ? Two men were shot early Tuesday morning during a party at an Eastlake Drive home on the Buckingham Peninsula.
Alvin Osborn, 23, was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in critical condition after he was allegedly shot in the head during an altercation, according to a press release from the Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO). Friends of Lakeport resident Teodulo “Junior” Tovar, 21, took him to Sutter Lakeside Hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand.
“This remains to be confirmed, but at this time we believe only one shot was fired. Everything is still unfolding and we”re still processing the crime scene,” Capt. James Bauman of the LCSO said.
Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call from the home at 1:40 a.m. The caller reported that an unidentified man had come to the party and “randomly” shot another man in the head, according to the release. The suspected shooter was identified as Chico resident Leroy Thomas Anderson, 27, according to the release. Rescue personnel from the Kelseyville Fire Protection District stood by until Anderson was detained without incident.
Anderson was booked at the Lake County Jail on felony charges of assault with a firearm and willful discharge of a firearm in a negligent manner. He is held on $15,000 bail.
According to the release, preliminary information indicates that Osborn, Anderson, Tovar and several others got into a verbal argument during the party. Tovar and Anderson began arguing and at some point during the fight, Anderson allegedly pulled a .45-caliber handgun from his jacket “to ward off Tovar”s aggression,” according to the release.
The release said Anderson was hit in the head with a bottle from behind while he was backing away from Tovar. Bauman said it is unknown whether Anderson was pointing the gun at Tovar or at anyone else.
Anderson and Tovar began struggling over the gun and the weapon discharged, according to the release. Bauman said it is unknown whether the discharge was accidental.
According to the release, the bullet hit Tovar”s hand and then Osborn”s head.
Osborn appeared to be trying to help Anderson, according to the release.
Bauman said the LCSO was in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the Eastlake Drive home on Tuesday.
No update about Osborn”s condition was available Tuesday. Bauman said Osborn”s place of residence is unknown.
