CLOVERDALE — The Clear Lake High School tennis team turned in one of its better efforts of the season Tuesday, beating the Cloverdale Eagles 4-1 in a Coastal Mountain Conference match at Cloverdale.

Clear Lake won two of the three singles matches and swept the Eagles in doubles.

In singles action, Clear Lake winners were KC White, 6-4, 6-4, over Fred Westenburg in first singles, and Nate Seacrest, 6-4, 6-4, over Cody Trettin in second singles. Cloverdale”s Alex Rosseau beat Clear Lake”s Humberto Perez 6-4, 6-2 in third singles.

In doubles play, Hayden Gilbert and Tony Valdez teamed up for a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Joe Wells and Sal Mendoza in No. 1 doubles, and Claire Mansell and Darcy McCarrick rallied past Nikkie Bernstein and Steve Abba 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 in No. 2 doubles.

“I”m real proud of them,” Clear Lake coach Rik Hays said of Mansell and McCarrick. “They”ve been working real hard together and they never miss a day of practice. They play together so well.”

Jeffery Mulligan and Tony Valdez won 6-0 in a single-set exhibition doubles match.

The Cardinals stay on the road today to play St. Helena. They host Middletown on Friday.
