CLEARLAKE ? A double-wide mobile home on the 3800 block of Cedar Avenue in Clearlake was completely lost to fire Thursday afternoon. Two occupants of the home were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
An arsenal of emergency units from Lake County Fire Protection District (LCFPD) responded to the blaze, which ignited around 2:20 p.m. Units from CalFire and Northshore Fire Protection District (NFPD), Clearlake Oaks, also responded with assistance.
“The fire was pretty well involved when we arrived,” LCFPD Battalion Chief Willie Sapeta said. “We had trouble gaining accessing to the fire”s location and getting enough water to fight the fire.”
According to Sapeta, access was limited to Cedar Avenue from the south. “We could only come in on Cedar because it”s too hard to get a fire engine in from Polk Avenue,” he said. “We had trouble getting enough water because the nearest fire hydrant was on the next block and it was too far to run a hose from the intersection.”
LCFPD responded with five fire engines, two medic units, a water tender, two battalion chiefs and about 20 personnel. NFPD and CalFire responded with a fire unit apiece. PG&E also responded as did three units from the Clearlake Police Department.
Although no human casualties were suffered, an unknown number of animals are believed to have perished in the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
