I am a little confused by Mr. Soper”s recent letter “Speed trap suspected.” Was he talking about a speed trap where an officer hides behind a pole or the observation of an airplane, at a distance, watching a car go over the double-yellow line?
I do not fly but I believe you can see, at a distance, a car going over the yellow line. California Vehicle Code no. 21460 so states: “When double parallel solid lines are in place, no person driving a vehicle shall drive to the left thereof.”
Lake County has a lot of head-on collisions and near head-ons, caused by drivers not obeying the laws of society and going over the yellow line. I believe that the California Highway Patrol (CHP), with the help from a plane, is trying to protect the citizens from such persons who do not obey the law so stated. I myself would not like to meet someone over the yellow line coming around a curve.
I checked with an officer of the CHP and was informed that all money collected from tickets written by CHP officers goes to the county. No monies go to the CHP office or the State. I hope that you do not have to swerve some day to avoid a head-on collision.
