SANTA ROSA ? The 17-year-old teen arrested on a murder charge Wednesday in connection with a Santa Rosa shooting was identified as Marco Antonia Meza in a Monday statement from the Sonoma County District Attorney”s Office.
Meza will be tried on the murder charge as an adult, according to the statement. He is due to appear in court to enter a plea on April 17. In a Friday night e-mail, Santa Rosa Police Department Sgt. Lisa Banayat said Meza was a gang member.
Sonoma County Deputy District Attorney Bob Waner and Meza”s defense attorney, Jonathan Steele, could not be reached for comment by the Record-Bee”s press time Monday night.
Santa Rosa police arrested Meza in connection with the April 6 shooting of Santa Rosa resident Luis Suarez, 18, who died at the scene. Meza was in a car that matched the description of a car seen in the area of the shooting, according to a Santa Rosa Police Department press release. Santa Rosa resident Fernando Mendoza, 20, was also in the car, and was arrested on a charge of parole violation.
