UPPER LAKE — Mike Davis tossed a one-hitter and didn”t allow a runner past second base as the Kelseyville Knights shut out the Upper Lake Cougars 14-0 in a non-league varsity baseball game on Wednesday at Upper Lake.

The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Gerald Thomas singled with two outs in the bottom of the first inning, rolling a single into left field, for Upper Lake”s lone hit. The only other Cougars to reach base against Davis were Brandon Bills, who was hit by a pitch and stole second, and Sloan Hennig, who walked and stole second.

“Davis was throwing strikes,” Upper Lake coach Greg Smith said. “Pretty much all he threw were fastballs, but he was effective with his location and control.”

Kelseyville (10-6) scored in every inning, including a five-run top of the fourth. Davis, Max Huff and Peter Wotherspoon all had two hits for the Knights. Wotherspoon also drove in three runs. Ryan Cockerton went 1-for-2 with four RBIs.

Devin Callen worked the first three innings for Upper Lake (3-8) and took the loss.

Upper Lake hosts Middletown in a non-league game on Friday, while Kelseyville plays a North Central League I North contest at Willits. First pitch at both locations is 4 p.m.
