LOWER LAKE ? Funds have been allocated in Caltrans District 1 for a safety project on State Route 29 at Spruce Grove Road in Lower Lake. Announcement of the allocation was made on Thursday.

Caltrans District 1 will receive $950,000 for the project, which will include road widening, construction of a left-turn lane and installation of intersection lighting in one location. The purpose of the project is to reduce the number of collision at the intersection and improve traffic safety.

According to Caltrans District 1 Information Officer Phil Frisbee, the project received the funds due to its preparedness. “This project received funds because of the fact that it was fully cleared. It had all of its engineering and permits in place and was ready to go out to bid,” Frisbee said. “It”s going out for bid advertising on Monday. We expect bid opening to be on May 15.”

The construction schedule, Frisbee said, will depend on the contractor. “Depending upon the contractor”s schedule, we will be starting sometime this summer on this project,” he said. “We”ll have a better idea about mid to late-June, once the contractor is awarded and then we will work with them on a schedule.”

Frisbee said that construction will take place at night with minimal impacts to traffic. “We”re expecting a maximum of 15 minute delays. The work window we are giving the contractor is 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. It”s night work so it won”t impact traffic,” he said.

Funds were allocated through the State Highway Operation and Protection Program, which is a pavement preservation program.
